MJ Torrecampo’s paintings explore our need for close social relationships through themes of family and the individual’s relationship to the group. The artist’s compositions are memories of seemingly mundane moments reconstructed with details that suggest an underlying tension and uncertainty. Born in the Philippines and living now in the United States, Torrecampo’s work investigates the push and pull of being raised in one culture and growing into another.

MJ Torrecampo was born in Manilla, Republic of the Philippines in 1992.  The artist received an MFA from the New York Academy of Art in New York City and a BFA from the University of Central Florida in Orlando, Florida.

A solo exhibition of Torrecampo’s work took place at C+N Canepaneri Gallery in Milan, Italy. Torrecampo’s work was shown in a two-person exhibition at the Future Fair in New York City, also with Canepaneri Gallery. The artist’s work has been featured in several group exhibitions throughout the United States and Europe.
